Nottingham has some great history...The most famous part is about Robin Hood...The other is the oldest Pub in England...Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem at the rock base of Nottingham Castle......used to be the brewery for the castle as water in medieval times was polluted....so Beer was the flavour of the day. It also was the meeting place for the crusaders heading off to the middle east to stop the islamic invaders....(are we still doing that?)
Basically there were caves under the castle which were used to store the beer...eventually the front was developed into an inn/meeting place. A number of rooms are developed out of the cave structure.
We met Paul, Dianne and Alexandra Manual from Canada who are on the latter part of an extended tour in Europe ...Great to meet up with them.
It was a long chat and a wonderful lunch...Prices in the 'Trip' are very good...recommend it to anyone.
So after we strolled around the castle and Nottingham Square to look at the vendors and some architecture...wonderful day and great friends Robin Hood is alive and well!!!...Tomorrow Edwinstowe to see the Major Oak (thats the one he hid in when the Sheriff's men were chasing him) and family in Sheffield.
