Sherwood Forest......Nottinghamshire

We went to see the Major Oak today and meet our Canadian friends Paul Dianne and Alex Manuel after we picked up our car. Mick said that as a kid he used to play on that tree but now everyone is restricted from being on the root structure to allow moisture to penetrate....It is about  1100 to 1400 years old. This is the tree that Robin Hood (or other similar names) had hid  to escape capture. It can hold about 7 people or 3 normal Canadians!!

Sherwood forest in the medieval times would have stretched from north of London up to the Lake district and obviously would have presented a challenge to maintain law and order .....quite a feat if you could. Robin had the run of the mill you could say.

Mick got a bit carried away, so we had to put him in the "stocks" for a while!

We had a farewell with Paul and Dianne and left to go to Chesterfield....Mick's Alma mater Art College.
