For a long time the surrounding graves were covered in graffiti......much to the dismay of family owners and the graveyard directors...They had considered moving the site but as his memory has faded with the younger genration....so the graffiti has become less. R.I.P. Jim
There are many famous people there ...here are some we visited
Sarah Bernhart
Appolonaire
This last photo was of Oscar Wilde's ....covered in listicked kisses....The oil in the lipstick has penetrated deeply into the stone
It was not very busy for mid week but we did find the Fromage shop we had been told about. So with Fromage, bagettes, butter and of course wine....we had the ingredients for a wonderful picnic......In front of the Hotel du Invalids...a wonderful garden surrounded with Napolean's canons....watching boche being played.....plus hand feeding the local feathered friends. We became experts at feeding the birds yesterday.
After our makeshift picnic we were well fortified to spend time at the Rodin Museum....a wonderful experience....France's answer to Michelangelo!!....Also being prepared was an exhibition of works by Sir Henry Moor....It was not quite open to the public....what a shame...started the next day.!!
Many pieces in the museum were preps for this last photo shot of The Gates Of Hell....never completed in his lifetime......Magnificent.
Sir Thomas Moor pieces were around the garden
Next on our busy last day was the most famous structure in Paris........The Eiffel Tower.........Still as impressive and pwerful as ever!!
To end a long and tiring last day in Paris we hopped aboard a rickshaw bike and went to see the Arc de Triumph as the sun was setting....then meandered (struggled) along the Champs-Elysees to catch the Metro home to rest our weary feet and prepare for battle in the traffic with our rental car heading towards Provence
Good night and avoir Paris..........
thanks for the postcard!
